Hiring a bldrExpert
Everything you need to know about posting a task, reviewing Worker profiles, setting expectations, and getting the best results when working with a bldrExpert.
Hiring a bldrExpert
Getting the right Worker for your task — and setting them up for success — takes a little preparation. This guide covers the full process from posting your task to approving the final delivery.
Step 1 — Write a strong task brief
The quality of your brief is the single biggest factor in getting a great result. Workers read your brief before deciding to accept the task — a clear, specific brief attracts experienced Workers and sets accurate expectations.
What to include in your brief
1. What the task is Be specific about what needs to be built, fixed, or changed. Vague briefs lead to mismatched expectations.
❌ "Fix my checkout"
✅ "The Stripe checkout integration on my e-commerce app is not redirecting users to the success page after a payment. The error in the console is: [paste error]. The checkout page is at /checkout."
2. Where in the app it lives Point the Worker to the right page, component, or data table. Include a link to your project if you're sharing access.
3. What "done" looks like Describe the deliverable in concrete terms. What should be true when the task is complete?
"When complete: a customer can add items to a cart, click Checkout, pay with Stripe test card 4242 4242 4242 4242, and land on /order-success with their order details displayed."
4. Any constraints or preferences
- Keep the existing design style
- Don't change the data model
- Use the existing Stripe account credentials (in environment variables)
- Mobile must also work correctly
5. Your timeline When do you need this done? Is this blocking something else? Give the Worker realistic context.
Step 2 — Set your budget
bldrExpert tasks are priced as fixed rates agreed before work begins. You are not charged until a Worker accepts your task.
How pricing works
- You set a budget range when posting your task
- Workers can accept at your listed rate or propose a counter-offer
- You choose to accept or negotiate
- Payment is held in escrow until you approve the delivery
Estimating a fair budget
| Task complexity | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Simple fix (< 1 hour of work) | $25 – $75 |
| Medium task (1–4 hours) | $75 – $250 |
| Complex task (4–8 hours) | $250 – $500 |
| Advanced / specialist (8+ hours) | $500+ |
Tip: If you're unsure, post the task with a range and let Workers propose rates. You'll quickly get a sense of fair market pricing for your specific task.
Step 3 — Post your task
- Go to /hire-a-worker
- Click Post a Task
- Fill in:
- Task title — a short, clear description (e.g. "Fix Stripe checkout redirect bug")
- Detailed brief — everything from Step 1 above
- Category — select the closest task type (Integration, Bug Fix, Design, Data, etc.)
- Budget — set your range
- Deadline — the date you need the work by
- Project access — choose whether to grant direct workspace access or share via screenshots/screen recordings
- Submit — your task is reviewed by bldrAgent before going live (typically within 2 hours during business hours)
Step 4 — Review Worker applications
Once your task is live, verified Workers can apply to take it on.
What you'll see in an application
- The Worker's profile, ratings, specialisations, and completion rate
- Their proposed rate (if different from your budget)
- A short message explaining their approach or asking clarifying questions
- Their estimated delivery time
How to evaluate a Worker
- Specialisation match — does their profile show experience with the type of task you've posted?
- Ratings and reviews — look for patterns in feedback from previous clients
- Completion rate — Workers with a 95%+ completion rate are consistently reliable
- Communication quality — a thoughtful application message is a good signal
You can message a Worker before accepting to ask clarifying questions.
Direct hiring vs. auto-match
If you'd prefer not to wait for applications, bldrAgent can auto-match your task to the best available Worker based on your task category, budget, and urgency. Enable auto-match when posting your task.
Step 5 — Share project access
Once you've accepted a Worker, you'll need to give them access to your project.
Access options
| Option | How to set it up |
|---|---|
| Read + Edit access | Add the Worker's email as a collaborator in Project Settings → Collaborators |
| Read-only access | Add them as a Viewer — they can see but not change your project |
| Screenshare only | For sensitive projects, host a screen-sharing session and let the Worker guide you through changes |
Security note: Only grant the access level the Worker needs for their specific task. Remove their access via Project Settings → Collaborators once the task is complete.
Step 6 — Communication during the task
bldrExpert has a built-in task messaging system where you and your Worker communicate throughout the engagement.
Best practices
- Be responsive — Workers may need to ask questions to proceed. Slow responses extend your timeline.
- Provide feedback early — if something looks wrong mid-task, say so immediately rather than waiting for final delivery.
- Share context generously — screenshots, error messages, recordings, and examples help Workers move faster and produce better results.
- Don't disappear — if you don't respond within 48 hours, the task may be put on hold.
Step 7 — Review and approve the delivery
When the Worker marks the task as complete, you'll receive a notification. You then have a review window to:
- Test the deliverable against your brief
- Request revisions if something is missing or incorrect
- Approve the delivery and release payment
Revision policy
Every task includes one round of revisions at no extra charge. A revision covers changes needed because the deliverable does not match the agreed brief. It does not cover new requirements added after the task was accepted.
If you need more than one round of revisions, discuss this with your Worker directly. Additional revision rounds can be agreed and priced in the task messaging system.
Approving delivery
Once you're satisfied:
- Click Approve Delivery in the task view
- Payment is released from escrow to the Worker
- You'll be prompted to leave a rating and review
Tip: Honest, detailed reviews help other clients make better decisions and help great Workers build their reputation.
Tips for a great bldrExpert experience
Write the brief as if the Worker has never seen your app. Even though Workers are bldrAgent-certified, they don't know your specific project. Assume zero prior knowledge.
Include a definition of done. Workers perform better when they know exactly what success looks like. The more concrete your acceptance criteria, the less room for ambiguity.
Don't change the scope mid-task. If you realise you want something extra while the task is in progress, discuss it with your Worker before they proceed. Additional scope means a new agreement on rate and timeline.
Rate honestly. Your review affects the Worker's standing on the platform. A fair, detailed review — positive or critical — helps maintain quality across the marketplace.
Frequently asked questions
Can I hire the same Worker again? Yes. If you've worked with a Worker before and want to hire them for a new task, you can invite them directly when posting. They'll receive a notification and can accept without going through the open application process.
What if a Worker goes quiet after accepting my task? If a Worker has not communicated or delivered within 24 hours of the agreed deadline, you can escalate via the Resolution Center. See bldrExpert Resolution Center.
Can I cancel a task after a Worker has accepted? Yes, but cancellation after acceptance may incur a partial fee if the Worker has already begun work. Review the cancellation policy in your task agreement, or contact support.
What payment methods are accepted? Task payments are held in escrow via Stripe. All major credit and debit cards are accepted. Escrow is only released to the Worker once you approve delivery.
